Insurance FAQ
What’s the difference between medical insurance and vision insurance?
The difference between medical and vision insurance comes down to the type of treatment or care you receive.
Vision plans do not cover any part of an eye exam considered “medical.” For example, vision insurance will not cover vision loss, floaters, dry eyes, allergies, infections, eye disease, or eye exams for any complication from diabetes.
Vision insurance is designed to cover costs associated with routine vision care specifically. It provides an added wellness benefit for healthy eye exams, prescription eyewear and or contact lenses.
What does vision insurance cover?
Vision insurance or vision benefits plans can help cover costs associated with routine and preventative eye care, including routine eye exams and prescription eyeglasses. Coverage typically includes frames and lenses but may only provide full coverage for select options.
With many plans, patients have the flexibility to substitute prescription eyeglasses coverage for contact lenses. Some plans may also offer coverage for corrective eye surgeries, like LASIK.
What does medical insurance cover?
Medical insurance typically covers specialized or non-routine vision care, including treating eye diseases like glaucoma or conditions like conjunctivitis (pink eye). It can also help cover the costs of certain medically necessary eye surgeries, such as cataract surgery.
What if I don’t have vision or medical insurance?
Don’t Worry! We do provide discounts for self- paying individuals. Call for pricing on eye exams or office visits for an eye medical problem.
Also ask about our discounts on eyeglasses.
