Back to School Eye Exams From Your San Antonio Optometrist

Pediatric Eye Care

This is the perfect time of the year to schedule a pediatric eye exam for your child. Children in the San Antonio area are heading back to school and student athletic activities are gearing up for the fall. You want to make sure that your child's vision is ready and a visit to our optometrist at The Vision Place in San Antonio can help confirm that. Of course, if our eye doctor determines there's an issue that can be corrected with glasses, you can rest assured we have a variety of stylish frames available. Dr. Sandra Palomino and our team provide the best in optometry care for the entire family, including pediatric eye care.

Symptoms of Vision Issues in Children

Children, especially young children, may not be equipped to tell you they are experiencing vision problems. That's why it is important to understand the signs and symptoms that can tell you it's time to schedule a visit with our optometrist at The Vision Place. Signs and symptoms can include:

  • Headaches, especially after reading
  • A reluctance to read or having trouble reading
  • Squinting to see
  • Tilting of the head to read or to see something
  • Falling grades

While all of these signs don't necessarily mean your child has vision issues, they can be indicative of them. It is best to make sure by scheduling a pediatric eye exam at The Vision Place.

At What Age Should You Schedule a Child for a Pediatric Eye Exam?

We recommend babies get an initial eye exam at six months. In addition, a pediatric eye exam should be scheduled at about the age of three and again at five years old. Keep in mind, vision can change quickly in children as they grow. That's why we recommend eye exams should then be scheduled annually throughout schooling, especially if your child already wears glasses. Annual exams are also important if your child was born premature or if your family has a history of vision issues. The start of the school year is an excellent time to schedule such an exam.

What To Expect When Visiting our San Antonio Optometrist

When your child visits The Vision Place, we conduct a range of eye tests that take a look at the inner structure of your child’s eyes. Along with this physical test, we then test your child’s vision. All of this non-invasive testing is accomplished in a relaxed, comfortable environment. We'll answer your questions and discuss your child's optometry needs and options.

We invite you to call us and make an appointment today. Call 210-764-1113 and get 15% off an initial exam. The Vision Place is located at 16535 Huebner Road #104 in San Antonio, TX.
